| Majorca Bound! ...page 2 Adam and Stephanie had visited Mallorca several times, and had become particularly familiar with the resort of Magalluf, just a few miles west of the capital Palma, and nestling between Palma Nova in the east and Santa Ponsa in the west. They regularly stayed at the Sol Antillas Hotel a 4* Hotel set a couple of hundred yards up a hill overlooking the busy centre, yet only a few yards from the beach. They had become friends with Mick Cormican, alias Mick the Fiddler - a superb entertainer at the popular Mrs Doyles Bar, similarly with Leo at The Titanic, and they had seen and enjoyed some of the Island's most popular acts including Leapy Lee , who tasted chart success in the 70's with "Little Arrows". However there were also a number of very ordinary and ageing entertainers appearing in the resort's many Music Bars, and our dynamic duo began to think that they could certainly find plenty of their own work, with maybe a possibility of eventually buying and running their own bar. |

| The first consideration in their planning had to be young Steven, aged 8 in 2003 and enquiries were made into the Spanish Education system, and whilst there were several English schools in nearby Palma, the overwhelming opinion with people who had undertaken a similar move with young children is that it is far more beneficial that they should attend the local Spanish school, and whilst there would be other English speaking pupils, Spanish would be learnt far more quickly. Also by taking work in local bars it should overcome most child minding difficulties, and they could regulate the amount of work that they undertook. A further visit in May 2003 only served to re-inforce their ambitions, as the sunny climate and laid-back lifestyle contrasted sharply with the stress of running a home, collating and printing a Magazine, and singing several nights a week in the cold and damp East coast of Yorkshire, whilst never seeming to make much financial headway. | |
